Silver Haired Soroptimist Water skis for Hope!

Soroptimist International Poole’s and founding member of the Purple Teardrop anti human trafficking Campaign, Juanita Byrne-Quinn, 81, has pledged to water ski 12 miles over the summer for the BCHA fund-raising initiative Miles for Hope in support of human trafficking victims. All proceeds raised during this challenge will go towards BCHA’s Miles for Hope appeal to raise funds for a specialist support worker to help human trafficking survivors transit successfully to a normal, safe life.

Juanita, a member of the British Waterski Disabled Association, will complete this challenge at the Ellingham Lake Water Ski Club between now and September 2014. To offer a donation, please go to: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JuanitaByrneQuinn

During each water ski session she will attempt the slalom course 6 times. Each course has 6 buoys to negotiate – this means targeting 36 buoys en route up and down the course each session. During each session Juanita will travel just over a mile, thus it will take her 12 sessions to complete her challenge.

Lynn Butterworth, President Soroptimist International Poole says ‘In total during Juanita’s 12 sessions, she will attempt the slalom course a total of 72 times, targeting a massive 432 buoys to achieve her goal. No small challenge for a lady of 81!! It just shows what the ladies of SI Poole will do to support its causes, the fight against human trafficking being a main priority.’
