SI Hamilton had a successful awareness day on Anti-Slavery Day (Friday18/10/13). Members collected approx 300 signatures for the Purple Teardrop Campaign lobby against sex advertising and raised awareness of not only the Purple Teardrop Campaign but of other agencies too including Women’s Aid, Rape Crisis and Doorway (a local authority gender equality partnership group) who supported the event with literature and some free personal alarms. The Shopping Centre manager agreed to put large Purple Teardrop Campaign posters up on permanent notice boards in the centre, one of which is outside the centre’s toilets.

Siobhan McMahon MSP visited the stand, and said “It was fantastic to be able to join the Soroptimists on Friday to raise awareness of this campaign. I haven’t known the Soroptimists for long but the work that they do not only for our own community here in Hamilton but all over Scotland and the UK is tremendous. The women work tirelessly to benefit others and I was delighted to be able to lend my support to them last week.”
