Soroptimists Win National Award

Soroptimists working to combat human trafficking, modern day slavery, under the banner of the Purple Teardrop Campaign have been recognised nationally. Soroptimists Pauline Monk and Jacky Paling are joint winners of the Marsh Award  for their outstanding individual contributions in this field.

The awards were presented by Theresa May MP at an Anti Slavery Day event in London on 16 October.  The photo here is of one of the Purple Teardrop Campaign trustees receiving the award on behalf of Pauline Monk. Mrs May is aiming for the first reading of the Modern Day Slavery bill to take place in the New Year. Under the new bill, traffickers face life sentences and will have their assets seized.
