Poole Lions 2013 Swimarathon

Representative Purple Teardrop CampaignOn the evening of Monday 18 March, Poole Soroptimists, Poole Lions and the Rotary Club of Poole Bay got together in the lecture theatre at Barclays House, Poole to celebrate another successful Swimarathon. Over the weekend of February 2nd and 3rd, 63 teams (including a Soroptimist team) each swam at the Dolphin Pool for an hour to raise funds for six charities. This year was the 35th time that the event has been held in Poole, and is now well known locally, both for the amount of money it has raised over the years, and for the fun which participants and spectators experience.

At the celebration evening, the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Carol Evans, presented cups and medals to teams in various categories. We then heard that the total sponsorship promised by the swimmers this year is £11,300. With Gift Aid still to come, and some expenses to be deducted, we do not yet have the final net figure but, since Poole Soroptimists were kind enough to nominate the Purple Teardrop Campaign as one of the charities, we know that in due course a substantial cheque will find its way to us. Thank you to everyone who swam, sponsored and helped – your contribution will make a significant difference to trafficking victims who have suffered much.
