One Billion Rising

One Billion Rising Purple Teardrop Campaign EventOur friend Alison Piasecka ran a fundraising event for the Purple Teardrop Campaign on Saturday 16 February 2013, as part of the global initiative One Billion Rising in dance to say No to violence against women – it was a wonderful day, full of dance, fun and laughter. Donations so far have raised over £1,500 to help women trafficked into prostitution – and it’s not too late to donate to help us reach our target of £2,000. Pictured are Alison Piasecka from Movingthrutransitions, Pauline Monk from the Purple Teardrop Campaign, and around half of the 50 amazing people who came and danced on the day – between us we learnt the basics of the Tango, the Blues, Lindy Hop, Belly Dancing, did the labyrinth walk, and contemporary reflective dance – and still found time for lunch, to sign the petition against “sex for sale” ads, and have a good chat. Finally, Soroptimist Hazel Holmlund, Northern  Ireland Region President of Soroptimist International, popped in to say hello – she is an avid anti-trafficking campaigner and sits on the Ministry of Justice’s anti-trafficking committee – and was delighted to see us having such an amazing day. Huge thanks go to Alison and her team, who made it such a special day, with their excellent organization and incredible kindness.
