UK Opts in to New EU Directive

The Purple Teardrop Campaign is delighted by the announcement that the UK is opting in to the new EU Directive which will combat human trafficking more effectively. The new directive includes measures that oblige member states to:

• ensure victims are not punished for their unwilling and unwitting involvement in criminal activities
• extend penalties for traffickers from 8 to 10 years
• investigate and prosecute human trafficking offences committed by its nationals
• put a series of preventative measures in place
